KARMA can come back to bite you.
I would like to start off with the finals for the Stanley Cup last season. The main reason the Canucks lost is Luongo. I had no idea there is an "I" in team. First of all when Luongo said to the media "I only have one more win to win the Stanley Cup". Where is the we (team) in there? What he had to say about Tim Thomas again to the media, if it’s not Karma/ hockey gods that are going to get you, it’s the whole energy of the fans and your team that just feel as though, let’s watch Luongo win us the cup. Man you could cause a riot, what were you thinking? If only the Canucks had Kipper, I think they would have won the cup. You can’t live with the what ifs but you can change the what ifs this season. Karma bites.
Now for my Flames. I do have a stake in the team as I am a season ticket holder. What I see, is a team that is spending over 60 million dollars and they are the same season after season. It’s a lot like a soap opera, you know what is going to happen at seasons end it's the same story. Why watch!!! It is sad to see people turned off again to the team as the people in my section don’t go to the games anymore. The Flames really believe we will have a repeat of 2004, but it will not happen with this team or coaching staff.
The problem is we have Kipper! He has been the team since 2004 and has saved us in more games than any other goalie in the NHL. The rest of the team has not been looked at as we're just getting by and living on hope. Most people are still stuck in the 2004 run. I can see that the team did not send Brent Sutter to Landmark education like I suggested, asI just saw the way he was yelling at Jokinen behind the bench on t.v.. Someone has to stand up and tell Sutter where to go, and I think a player has to do it and soon.
I think other changes have to happen too. We owe it to Kipper and Iginla so they can win a Stanley Cup! We have to start rebuilding now, don’t live in 2004 anymore as that will not happen the same with this team. We have to trade Kipper and Iginla (say) to Vancouver for the twins. Vancouver will win the cup. Or trade them to Edmonton because if Edmonton had a goalie (Kiprusoff) with those kids they would have what we had in 2004. I don’t want to see Kipper go there but what a team they would have if they had a goalie. Any team that picks up Kipper and Iginla will be in the finals in June. Send Bouwmeester and his $6.68 million to any team that will take him. Wow I can’t believe the money we spend on him! The Flames use the media in this city to make the team better then they are and why would they change that. They have to sell tickets so good smart marketing boys but you can’t sell the team to me.
The bottom line- When people are lied too or sold something that is not true, it is bad Karma that will come back and bite you when you least expect it.
We have to plan (build) for the future now or the hole is just going to get bigger.

I am taking this winter off work and start traveling big time again, go to http://travelcheapwithpete.com/ for updates of where I will be, no worries I will start writing hockey again before the playoffs. I took an around the word trip on my own about 8 years ago. I started in Tahiti and then went to Cook Island, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Mexico and Brazil for carnival. It was too fast as I did all of that in three months. This time I am wide open with no plans except just wake up in the morning and end up somewhere else. The past few years I have been hanging out in Australia, Cuba, Mexico and Central America lots and it all has been amazing. I love it all and all the places I get to see and all people I get to meet.

Please, Not Again Coach Sutter
March 16th 2011
Well, well please not again Mr. Brent Sutter. I thought that this season you had learned, or got help for your anger. You were a new person maybe you even had a coach from the Landmark forum http://www.landmarkeducation.com/ or your own sports Psychologist.I saw a new person at the beginning of 2011 at least I thought I did, until I read the papers again today. Just like January of 2010 when the team had lost three in a row, before that they were winning and having a great season. Then you ran to the media and sh__ on your players as you did today. Do you not remember what happened last year when you did the same thing, you lost respect from the players, the team went from I think it was third place to fall out of the playoff race. Come on you have a team that can make it to the top but you have to respect them first. Who wants to work for someone that no matter how hard you work and yes we will have a bad day/night once in a while, but back them good or bad, watch you will see them gel as a team again.Just think about how January to December 2010 worked out for you? The old Brent (angry guy) did it really work for you? 2011 and the Feaster era brought a new beginning with a Happy Team from you down to the stick boy! A three game losing streak does not mean that you have to resort back to the old you, smile and take it one day at a time. We all know in Calgary and have seen it when you play as a team your team is more positive, confident and having fun as a team, not blaming anyone. Look at it as one bad day and it will be better next time out, please do not go back to the old ways, you and we all know it does not work.
The bottom line is the Calgary Flames need to make the playoffs, for your sake and ours lets work to make that happen. A happy team is a productive team!!!!!
This is my view not yours because I care: Peter Montgomery nhlfix.com

___________________________________________________________________________ Enough is Enough, I need to set up a meeting with our new GM Jay Feaster NOW! I was just on a trip to Cuba, when I came across on board my flight a scalper that sells tickets for the Flames games. Knowing that he will miss the Minnesota game on the 19th of January I asked him why he was going on a trip when he can make money selling tickets. His answer was that they are not selling and it's getting worse every game. I do not want to see what happened in our City back before 2004 where people were giving tickets away and not going to the games and the threat of the team leaving this City. I would like to set up a meeting with our new GM Jay Feaster and yes he can bring his sports therapist (psychologist) with him. Just so I can prove to him that I am not nuts and I do know hockey. I do not want Ken King there due to the fact that we do have a bad history and I do not want to be judged by the past. I would like to chat about what I think is going on with the team, prove that I know hockey and show what it takes to get people motivated to the next level. Jay to start back at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season the hockey people and hockey media were giving the Flames second or third in the Western Conference and this team has not changed that much since then. We do have a better team than we did in 2003/2004 in our run for the Stanley cup against your Tampa Bay Lighting. It will not hurt to meet up, you may not like what I have to say, but just think about it. If you get one thing out of our meeting, it is that I believe what I have to say would only help and improve our hockey team, take a chance. I want this team to be better for the sake of the City of Calgary and its Fans. Just to prove I'm not nuts I'm going to meet our new Mayor for dinner with the group that I belong too. We want to work with our mayor to build a great city with a hockey team we can support and be proud of. A message to Ken King, Ken you have done a great job as President and Chief Executive Officer. You are a great speaker, great at marketing/sales and one of the best I have ever seen in conflict resolution but because of the bad past I have caused myself, I would really appreciate time to talk to your G.M on his own. I know you care as much as all of us in this great City of Calgary, Please sir. Let's let the past go and I think we can work as a team together. Please just give me a chance to prove myself. Attention: Mr. Gary Bettman, can we fire the owners of the Calgary Flames..
Hello Mr. Bettman, I was just wondering if the paying season ticket holders of the Calgary Flames can fire our owners? And I will take over as interim owner until we have a new owner in place because they do not seem too listen to the fans or the media in this city. Everyone is asking for change yet they seem to think everything is good here and they want to stay on course. Their course whatever that is supposed to mean.It is so sad in this City and to be fair to the owners, maybe they don’t know how bad it really is. A friend of mine from Australia (Sam), that was living in Ireland the past six years was living in Calgary in 2004 for the red mile. He could not believe how things have changed in this city. The energy of the city is all gone. I was the only one in Mel rose sports bar wearing a Calgary Flames jersey in the bar watching the Flames on t.v. Man it is so sad to see in the city and country I live in, the team of 2004 was all built by ex G.M’s but Sutter got the credit for the work of Button, Coatsey and Riser. Oh yeah my Australian friend Sam does not complain about anything, but it was the coldest week he showed up in here. Thank god we took off to Cuba a couple of days after the game, he definitely was not complaining about the Flames play it was just the weather he was complaining about. Something has to be done sooner than later, your friend Peter Montgomery a season ticket holder of the Calgary Flames.

Any bets for tonights game? ( I think, they were talking about the Flames Leafs game December 16th 2010).
___________________________________________________________________________
Calgary Flames went through the pre-season without losing a game and convincing everyone in Calgary that their team would rebound from a disappointing 2009-2010 to contend in a tough Western Conference. Well, that certainly hasn’t happened. The Flames are currently second last in the Western Conference – only two points above the last placed Oilers and one point above the Toronto Maple Leafs, before tonight's game.
In actuality, the Flames have been a major disappointment every year since they made a surprising run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2004. They got lucky in 2004. Kiprusoff played out of his mind, Iginla was good enough to carry the team, and they rest of the players were hard-working and chipped in big goals at opportune moments. Everything came together for the Flames that season. It was magical and expecting the Flames to duplicate that run was insane.
They followed up that season by winning the Northwest Division in 2005-2006, but were upset by the Ducks in the first round. They failed to make it past the first round in each of the next three seasons and missed the playoffs entirely last year.
It isn’t surprising that the Flames have performed at this mediocre level. They’ve always been good enough to contend for a playoff spot, but never strong enough to actually make any substantial run at the Stanley Cup. They’ve essentially had a team good enough to stay afloat, but not good enough to actually excel.
This reminds me of a team I know well. This team I know had major problems like the Flames, but continued to bandage their cracks instead of fixing their Grand Canyon sized holes. This eventually led them to become one of the worst teams in the league.
In honour of Dion Phaneuf’s return to Calgary tonight here are all the reasons why the Flames reflect the hapless Maple Leafs of the post-lockout. That sentence alone should convince the Flames that they desperately need to re-build.
Overpaid Blueline
After the lockout the Leafs heavily invested in their backend, re-signing both Bryan McCabe and Tomas Kaberle, while signing Pavel Kubina and Hal Gill to lucrative deals. Those four defencemen cost the Leafs close to $20 million, yet continually led the Leafs to the bottom of the league in goals against (yes, Raycroft and Toskala share the blame here, too). The Leafs are still following this build from the blue-line out philosophy, but at least are receiving a little more production for their money.
The Flames face a similar situation. This year their top-6 defencemen make close to $20 million per season, but once Mark Giordano’s extension kicks in next season they will spend this amount on only four defencemen. The Flames have the luxury of a world-class goalie in net, but are still 21st in goals against.
Giving Jay Bouwmeester close to $7 million a season is turning into a worse contract than the one the Leafs gave Bryan McCabe. At least the Flames are getting someone somewhat capable of playing defence, but the Leafs received someone capable of actually scoring points.
Depleted Farm System
The Leafs spent the better part of the 2000s trading away first round picks and prospects for rental players at the trade deadline in hopes of winning a Stanley Cup. We all know how that worked out. Eventually, continually draining their assets meant that they boasted one of the worst groups of prospects in the league (and the ones that were good they would eventually trade anyways – see Rask, Tuukka).
The first year after the lockout the Leafs hoped the next great wave of young superstars arriving in the form of Kyle Wellwood, Carlo Colaiacovo, Alex Steen, and Ian White would help replace their departed Alex Mogilny, Joe Nieuwendyk, Bryan Leetch, and Gary Roberts. It wasn’t exactly a blue-chip group and they didn't make anyone forget about the departed.
Hockey’s Future currently ranks the Calgary Flames dead last in the entire league in terms of prospects. The Flames’ best chance at a top-line talent is Mikael Backlund who is currently playing with the big club and has 7 points in 30 games.
Cap Trouble
The Leafs put themselves right up against the cap after the lockout, yet produced a roster that was only good enough to make a run at the final playoff spot over the last month of the season. They never spent their money wisely and routinely gave out contract that only Glen Sather thought were bargains.
The Flames have settled right under the cap as well and have absolutely $0 in space. The only reason they’re able to ice a team is because they have close to $4 million on long-term injury reserve.
The Flames’ situation forced them to trade Dion Phaneuf to the Leafs last year for depth players, which failed to catapult them into the playoffs. Everyone knows that trading a 24-year-old former Norris candidate when he’s at his lowest possible value is a great move.
You’re in trouble when you’re spending everything you can and you still aren’t nearly good enough to make the playoffs. At that point you need to start looking at your roster and determine who is realistically a part of your long-term plans.
The Aging Superstar
The Flames still have a legitimate superstar in Jarome Iginla, but there isn’t much around him. He’s accompanied by a series of washed up has-beens and ex-Maple Leafs – a bad combination. Mats Sundin played with washed up has-beens and actual Maple Leafs during the post-lockout years in Toronto.
Jarome Iginla, at his current age, isn’t the type of player that is capable of doing everything himself. Ultimately, neither was Mats Sundin (although he did come close to doing so in 1999). The Flames can no longer rely on trotting out a line-up of nobodies and Iginla and expect to win. Iginla is 33-years-old and isn’t capable of being the go-to-guy on a contending team anymore. It’s sad but true.
Another parallel is that both men enjoy(ed) the comforts of a NTC. If the Flames decide to re-build, Iginla is their best chip to trade. If he rebukes the Flames just like Sundin did then it could be a much longer re-build in Calgary.
Reliance on Reclamation Projects
After the lockout the Leafs hoped that Jason Allison, Eric Lindros, and Jeff O’Neill would be enough support for Mats Sundin to drag the Leafs back into the playoffs. They weren’t because they were playing in 2005-2006 and not the 2000-2001.
This year the Flames befuddled everyone by signing both Olli Jokinen and Alex Tanguay after both severely disappointed during their first stints in Calgary. Alex Tanguay actually is second on the team in points with 24 this season, but Jason Allison scored 60 points for the Leafs in 66 games and it didn’t really help them make the playoffs. Olli Jokinen has rediscovered the play that made him so ineffective during his original Calgary stay and has scored only 4 goals all season. Woof!
NTCs
The Flames have an astounding 11 players with no-trade clauses. Eleven! That boggles my mind. You would think that every general manager would look at the mess JFJ made of the Leafs are realize what a horrible idea giving out NTCs are.
The Flames’ players with NTCs are: Jarome Iginla, Daymond Langkow, Matt Stajan (seriously!), Rene Bourque (they thought it was Ray), Ales Kotalik (shaking my head), Olli Jokinen (a no movement clause because Jokes was in such high demand), Alex Tanguay (another NMC), Jay Bouwmeester, Robyn Regehr, Corey Sarich, and Miikka Kiprusoff.
Some of these players must employ a mutant Scott Boras negotiating their contracts because there is no way that anyone here other than Iginla and Kiprusoff should have this clause.
The Leafs only had five players with trade restrictions, yet this caused them major long-term problems. In 2008, with JFJ disposed, Cliff Fletched attempted to make sweeping changes to the Leafs by dealing Mats Sundin, Darcy Tucker, Bryan McCabe, Tomas Kaberle, and Pavel Kubina, but their NTCs prevented such action. The Leafs are still dealing with the fall-out of JFJ’s foolish decision to hands these clauses out considering Tomas Kaberle will never be traded and will leave as a UFA on July 1st.
If the Flames are serious about re-building (which they really should) then having a roster filled with unmoveable players will make it especially difficult to do so.
Terrible Management
Calgary fans once had a motto: “In Sutter we trust”. Hopefully, no one actually says that anymore because everything I’ve written seems to suggest that Darryl Sutter is completely untrustworthy.
JFJ was totally unprepared and unqualified for the Leafs’ job, but Sutter comes from one of the most storied hockey families and has years of experience in the league. There is no excuse for his absolute incompetence. It’s time for the Flames to fire both Sutter brothers, promote Jay Feaster to GM and start a proper re-build.
The Flames as they are currently constructed are at the very best a bubble team. Realistically, they aren’t even that good. They don't have any prospects to rely on making the team better in the future and can only count on their veterans regressing as they age.
This isn’t 2004. The Flames can’t hope that Miikka Kiprusoff stands on his head and Jarome Iginla carries the team on his back. The planets may have aligned allowing that strategy to lead the Flames to the cup final then, but now, over five years later, that’s only part of the Flames’ problem.
In short, it must suck to be a Flames fan. No hope, no future. This article is not written by me but it does articulate my sentimets exactly.
Any bets for tonights game?
No name was sent.

My Thoughts on the Flames
I have been a Calgary Flames fan for as long as I can remember. I have cheered for them through the good times and the bad. I remember starting to go to the games not long after they moved into the Saddledome, because my grandparents had gotten season tickets. I grew up idolizing the Flames players because they got to play for such a great organization. I was at the Stanley Cup deciding game in 86, watching the Montreal Canadiens skate around the ice with the Stanley Cup. That was one of the hardest things I have ever witnessed, just knowing that Our Team had gotten so close and tried so hard. But they came back the next year, heads held high and started all over again. A couple of seasons later and Oh My Lord, the Flames are now doing the same thing that the Canadiens had done to them and were skating around on their ice holding Lord Stanley above their heads as high as they possibly could. Man what a feeling!!!!
After that they had some up and down seasons, but their I was still cheering away because this is my team!!!! There were times that some of the decisions that were made were tough to understand, but as a devoted fan I stuck by my team. I watched as the team went through a streak of non-playoff years but you have to stand by your team. All of a sudden the Sutter Era began.
Darryl Sutter joined the organization and all of a sudden we became a contender again and he became the savior to a lot of devoted fans like myself. Everything the man touched seemed to turn to gold on the ice. We have the run to the Cup again and what a feeling of pride and joy, watching the team go out and leave everything they had on the ice. I don't even want to discuss the goal that supposedly never happened by Martin Gelinas, but I digress. Again the fans and the City in general have something to cheer for. Again the team and the fans had to watch another team enjoy the spoils of Lord Stanley. But again the team came out the next season with some minor changes but still with their heads held high and started again. We as fans watched as Sutter started to make little changes here and there and they seemed to still be working. Flames Fans including myself couldn't help but think about how it had worked out some years earlier with the little bits of tinkering after being to the finals. Somewhere on that track of all we need is some minor tinkering and we will be back in the finals, Darryl lost his mind.
Now here we are. We are not even the same team that we were only a couple of seasons ago. If you look in the different areas within the organization I am sure you will find the last name Sutter connected to a job of some sort. I have no problem with helping family out, but good lord. Our Savior from a few years back, now all of a sudden thinks and speaks about how the important people agreed with his choices. Am I missing something here or are the Fans, the people who fill the Saddledome to the brink for every home game and spend their hard earned money to be there and cheer on their team NOT IMPORTANT!!!!! Give me a freaking break. Just because we don't sign your cheques does not make us the fans any less important than the people that do. Where do you think the money comes from to fill your damn pockets anyway. We are allowed to ask questions, and expect answers and for the Organization in a whole to be held accountable for the decisions that are made in the office or on the ice. It does not seem like it was that long ago that we heard the pleas and the cries from the Organization that if they didn't get the support from the fans that was needed, that financially it may not be feasible to keep the team here. Well we listened and you have all the support that you can get and more, but yet we aren't classified as important in the eyes of your General Manger. Give Your Head A Shake, and Wake Up.
Again I have been a fan for a long time, but it gets really old really fast, trying to support some of the decisions made by the Organization in general.
Sincerely a Devoted Fan of the Flames,
Brad Bernauer

The Flames and Their Free Agent Splash
I really wish that I could have gone through the beginning of Free Agency, with a NO COMMENT!!!! But people expect me to say something after what has transpired.
So I will start off with a Positive Note, by saying congratulations for picking up Tanguay for one year at 1.7 Million. I think that was a smart move by the organization.
Now I will speak on behalf of the Fans of the Flames. Please do not make us look stupid, figuring that we know nothing about hockey. Jokinen again, Really!!!!!
Now a note to the Media in Calgary. I think that this the first time that I have seen them go against the Flames and their decisions. I believe that this is a good thing as it will keep the Organization on their toes.
I sent the ownership group a letter at the end of the season, asking them to meet me so that I could give them my view on what went Wrong! I still have not heard anything back from them on this. NHLFIX CONSULTING, is what I am offering. I believe that my view is the same as a lot of the fans that fill the Saddledome up every game. And I know that if we could just speak it would make sense to the Organization to listen to what we have to say. That is all that I am asking!!!! My Consulting is FREE OF CHARGE!!!

Travel Cheap With Pete, Playoff Tickets Anywhere:
I will find cheap hockey tickets in any city. This past weekend I went to Vancouver with my daughter Crystal so that she could take an amazing course called http://www.landmarkforum.com (I would recommend this course be taken by the Sutters as well).
While my daughter was in the course on Saturday night I decided to go to the Canucks/Kings game. The ticket cost me more than I normally pay as this one was $100.00. The person I bought the ticket from had payed $160.00. Here is a little breakdown of a weekend away to Vancouver from Calgary:
1.Total Cost of Flight - $284.81
3.New Train To Downtown - $7.50
4.Playoff Hockey Ticket $100.00
So in total not a bad deal to get out of the city for a couple of days to the beautiful city of Vancouver, and take in a Hockey game as well. My secret to finding cheap tickets is to stand about 15 feet away from the scalpers and watch for people that have an extra ticket. Being close enough to hear what the scalper has offered them but not close enough to piss the scalper off, I can move in and offer a bit more usually with great results. It does help to only be asking for a single ticket as they are way harder to get rid of.
The people that I bought the ticket from got it from http://www.rosedaleonrobson.com/ They paid $250.00 per person for 1 night stay and the hockey ticket. The catch to this is it is based on double occupancy. When I got to my seat there was a white towel sitting there waiting. As hard as they tried it could not match the Sea of Red as far as I am concerned.
Last season I went on a holiday with my sister Carol and my other daughter Tiffany to Phoenix. While we were there the Flames and Oilers were coming through town. I think we payed around $20.00 each person for each game. While we were at the game proudly wearing our Flames Jerseys, one of the Ushers approached us and told us we could move down to the lower bowl at no extra charge. There were alot of Flames and Oilers fans there for those games.
Extra for Ken King:
As a President myself, I would like to commend Ken King for standing by his staff. With the support that he is showing through these hard times it shows well on him and the Team as a whole. I strongly recommend that Brent Sutter take this course http://landmarkforum.com somewhere down south where he isn't recognized. It will help him to communicate better with the players. Everyone will be happier because of this, I guarantee it.
